A new report claims that one of the reasons that Shark Racing parked its 1a car that was being piloted by Ashton Torgerson in the World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series was “financially based.”

Jeremy Elliott of SprintCarUnlimited.com shared details about the one-off deal between Shark Racing and Cameron Smith that saw Smith pilot the 1a car at Port Royal on Saturday night for the PA Posse 410 Sprint Series’ Keith Kauffman Classic. As part of his report he shared that Shark Racing owner Jacob Allen spoke to him about parking the car from the Outlaws’ national schedule. Elliott said, “Allen also indicated that the decision to leave the World of Outlaws was financially based. He did state that he still wants to race, but he’s going to do it like his father, Bobby, right now, and he also wants to have some fun.”

Ashton Torgerson revealed that Allen and Shark Racing were parking the car back on May 6th. He stated in a Facebook post, “This is a hard post for me to make, but effective immediately, Jacob Allen has made the decision to park the team. I’m incredibly bummed, but more than anything, I’m thankful.”

“I can’t thank Bobby Allen and Jacob enough for giving me the opportunity of a lifetime — the chance to wheel the legendary Shark Racing 1A and chase my dream at the highest level. Together, we made memories I’ll carry forever, shared a lot of laughs, and had some incredibly fast race cars along the way. For that, I’ll always be grateful,” he added.

Shark Racing then shared a post from Jacob Allen’s sister Dana Allen that explained why the team was parking the car, “My brother has made the decision to park his team, the 1a, for now. That decision comes from real life — from loss, from responsibility, and from navigating something no one is ever truly prepared for. This is not the end. There has been no talk of selling, and anyone saying otherwise is simply wrong.”

“Our dad built something incredible. He gave my brother and my son an amazing opportunity— and together, they built Shark Racing. That legacy isn’t going anywhere,” she continued. “Everyone handles grief differently. Social media doesn’t always show the weight people are carrying behind the scenes. We’re a family first. Always have been. Always will be. Not everything needs to be debated or decided from the outside.”

As for the deal with Smith, right now it’s just a one-off deal and will not conflict with Smith’s commitment to the Rick Lefever Racing team. However, Elliott noted that there is “the possibility of more in the future if things mesh between the two teams.” In fact, he predicted that is likely the case after Smith finished in 6th at Port Royal, “I wouldn’t be a bit surprised if he runs more races for Allen in the future.”
