Cory Hedgecock shared that while he was on vacation with his family in Florida that his father Chad suffered a “massive stroke.”

Hedgecock shared in a post to social media on Monday night, “Well. Too say this has been an eventful vacation is quite the understatement. Pops seems to be okay and only time will tell the main story but dad had a massive stroke caused by him being in AFib for what the doctors say a week. I thankfully wasn’t at the beach house when it happened or i would’ve had a come apart.”

The Centers for Disease Control defines AFib or Atrial Fibrillation as “the most common type of treated heart arrhythmia. An arrhythmia is when the heart beats too slowly, too fast, or in an irregular way. When a person has AFib, the normal beating in the upper chambers of the heart (the two atria) is irregular, and blood doesn’t flow as well as it should from the atria to the lower chambers of the heart (the two ventricles). AFib may happen in brief episodes, or it may be a permanent condition.”

“He went completely dead in left side of his body, ambulance got there quick, got him to the hospital and they was miracle workers with the meds they shoved through him,” Hedgecock continued. “Had countless MRI’s and CT Scans. Had a massive block in his brain, so they opted to do a cath procedure where they go retrieve the clot, so they air flighted him to Pensacola where by the time he got there the clot had completely disappeared. Little blood pressure problems with the meds and some ICU time to get it all back under control. He says he’s felt like he’s been at school with all the test and questions doctors asking him to do and such. Hopefully all the motor skills stays the same and gets to get back with us tomorrow.”

“Thought i was losing my best friend. Puts some things in perspective really fast on what’s important and what isn’t,” Hedgecock shared. “Again, he is perfectly ok, nothing short of a miracle. Thank God.”

“Miles got to see him be lifted out, very helpless feeling for me to know i can do nothing and that might be last time i see him. I have the most intrusive thoughts anyways and the whole time my head is filled with awful things as mom and my sister was having I’m sure the same. It was horrendous for a moment,” he concluded. “I appreciate everyone who knew reached out, again. He is okay. Me, pops and momma gunna have a big meeting next week on how we can calm down dad. Gotta keep him around a few more minutes.”

In the comments of the post, Chad Hedgecock wrote, “I love all y’all more than you know and as you know and see do anything for y’all. Worst feeling in the world when you and Miles had to go a different direction and hearing him screaming I will say that’s the scariest I’ve ever been no one I was trying to talk that something was wrong, but I couldn’t make anything work.”

Shelby Hedgecock Anderson, Cory’s sister, also shared more details when she discovered her dad suffering the stroke, “One of the scariest things I’ve ever seen. He told Mom to get me and thankfully we wasted no time and I called the ambulance immediately. So thankful my husband was with me and able to take us to Pensacola while he was being life flighted. The doctors said he’s nothing short of a miracle… thank you, GOD.”
