Macri Motorsports announced that Kasey Kahne will continue to compete with the team through the middle of June as driver Anthony Macri continues to recover from a back injury suffered in a crash at Williams Grove Speedway at the beginning of April.

The team shared in an update, “First and foremost, thank you for the incredible support you’ve shown our team over the past several weeks. Your messages, encouragement, and loyalty have meant so much as Anthony continues his recovery and making steady progress from his injury.”

“After careful consideration, and with Anthony’s health remaining the top priority, we’ve decided to continue with Kasey Kahne behind the wheel for a few more races while Anthony gets the additional time he needs to fully heal,” the team continued. “We’re grateful to have someone with Kasey’s experience helping keep our team competitive and represent our sponsors during this stretch, and we know the fans have enjoyed seeing him back on the track as well.”

“Most importantly, Anthony continues to make positive strides every day, and we’re all looking forward to seeing him back in the seat when he’s fully ready. Thank you again for standing behind Macri Motorsports through it all. We can’t wait to see everyone at the track!”

Kahne will compete with the team as it returns to Williams Grove Speedway on June 5th for the All Star Circuit of Champions race there. They’ll then head to Lincoln Speedway with the All Stars on June 6th. From there, they’ll travel west to Eagle Raceway to compete with High Limit Racing on June 9th. They’ll head to Nebraska with High Limit Racing when they visit Shelby County Speedway. Finally, they’ll rae with the World of Outlaws at Knoxville Raceway on August 12-13.

Macri suffered compression factures of T4 and T5 after he wrecked and violently flipped while leading at Williams Grove on April 3rd.

The team shared that Macri was taken to a hospital following the wreck for evaluation and was “diagnosed with compression fractures of T4 and T5.”

Kahne was initially tapped to fill in for 10 races throughout the month of May as Macri recovered. Due to rain outs, he’s only competed in six. Kahne has had solid performances in the car. He debuted at Lincoln Speedway and finished 11th. He improved two spots a couple of days later with the World of Outlaws to finish 9th. Kahne then got his first Outlaw win at Williams Grove during night 1 of the Morgan Cup. On the second night he finished fifth. He then finished fourth at Port Royal on May 16th and then again at Grandview Speedway when the High Limit Racing series rolled into town.
