Young Modified driver Jaxson Mattick found himself in a wild wreck at Chateau Speedway that ended up with him upside down in the Cedar River.
Photographer Buck Monson captured footage of the aftermath and shared it to social media on Saturday afternoon, “Jaxson Mattick went off the track and ended up on his roof in the Cedar River. HATS OFF to the track crew on a very quick response time, they were able to jump in the water and get the car tipped up to give Jaxson some air.”
“Jaxson miraculously was able to get his helmet off and belts off so he could get upright inside the cockpit. The track crew held the car up as best they could while talking to Jaxson, keeping him as calm as possible until the tow truck could get the car turned more so he could get out,” Monson continued. ” I didn’t even realize until a while into the ordeal that [his father] Josh was in the water too. Josh said he saw the trees move when the car went off the track and rushed to the scene.”
“A very scary moment that had so many things go to Jaxson’s favor. Again, HUGE THANK YOU to the track crew, they didn’t even hesitate to save this racer,” he concluded. “I had permission last night from the Matticks and the track to post these and I checked on Jaxson again today before posting. He’s a little sore but doing great!”
As Justin Fiedler at DIRTRACKR noted the track does border the river and several racers had ended up in it before they built a back stretch wall. However, there is still an opening before the wall begins and it appears that young Jaxson found that gap during his wreck.
StockCarReport.com did contact Josh Mattick to get more details about the incident, but did not hear back at the time of publication.
