Tanner Mullens Steals Electric City, Nevada Called Off

  Press Release

Sometimes patience pays off.

For 28 laps, it appeared Dustin Hodges had all the answers on Friday night at Electric City Speedway. The polesitter controlled the pace of the 30-lap Pannell Chipping A-Feature for the USRA Heartland Modified Tour presented by Real Wheels, surviving multiple cautions and holding off every challenge the field could muster. The one challenge he couldn’t fend off came in the closing laps.

As Hodges navigated heavy lap traffic, Tanner Mullens found momentum on the high side of turns three and four. After stalking the leader during the late stages of the race, Mullens seized his opportunity, driving around Hodges in traffic with just two circuits remaining to steal away the lead and ultimately the win.

The victory capped a nearly flawless evening for Mullens, who set overall quick time in Deatherage Opticians Group B Qualifying and captured the Kevko Racing Heat 3 victory before standing in Victory Lane.

While Mullens ultimately earned the trophy, Hodges was undoubtedly the dominant car for much of the night. After posting the fastest lap in Deatherage Opticians Group A Qualifying and winning Rick Beebe Heating & Air Conditioning Heat 1, Hodges led the opening 28 laps of the feature and appeared poised for his first tour victory of the season before traffic altered the outcome.

Paden Phillips completed a strong night in third after winning Smith Equipment Company Heat 2, while Tyler Davis charged from 12th to fourth. Henry Chambers rounded out the top five after winning Swift Springs Heat 4 earlier in the evening.

The feature’s first half was plagued by cautions and interruptions, including a frightening lap seven incident involving Nick Roberts and Terry Phillips. Roberts took a violent tumble entering turn three, collecting Phillips in the process. Fortunately, both drivers were able to exit their cars under their own power.

After another restart with 14 laps remaining, the race finally settled into a lengthy green-flag run that allowed strategies and traffic management to become major factors. Mullens steadily reeled in Hodges during the uninterrupted stretch before making his winning move with two laps to go.

Trevor Hughes earned PEM Racing Hard Charger honors after advancing from 21st starting position to finish seventh. Hughes also claimed the Real Racing Wheels B-Feature victory to race his way into the main event.

Thirty-four competitors signed in for the third consecutive season appearance by the Heartland Modified Tour at Electric City Speedway.

Heartland Modified Tour Point Standings Tighten After Butler

With Nevada Speedway falling victim to weather the following night, Friday’s stop at Electric City Speedway became the lone points-paying event of the weekend. Tyler Davis continues to lead the championship standings following his fourth-place finish, while Trevor Hughes remained within striking distance after earning PEM Racing Hard Charger honors. Consistency continues to define the early championship battle, with just 58 points separating the top ten drivers entering the next round of competition.

Nevada Speedway Event Falls Victim to Weather

The weekend was originally scheduled to conclude Saturday night at Nevada Speedway, however persistent light rain and unfavorable forecasts forced the cancellation of the second half of the Heartland Modified Tour’s Missouri doubleheader.

Although the speedway itself received only minimal precipitation, continued light rain throughout the region and concerns regarding travel conditions for teams and fans ultimately led series and track officials to make the difficult decision to cancel the event. The early call allowed competitors and spectators to avoid unnecessary travel while preserving the possibility of exploring a future makeup date.

Heartland Modified Tour and Nevada Speedway officials are continuing to evaluate potential scheduling opportunities and will announce further details should a suitable rain date become available.
