Danny Dietrich and his Gary Kauffman Racing team announced their plans to defend his claim to the Ohio Sprint Speedweek championship this weekend.
Dietrich invaded and laid claim to the state last year clinching the miniseries’ points title with a win on the final night at Atomic Speedway for the Dean Knittel Memorial. He will kick off his defense of the title this weekend at Attica Raceway Park on Friday, June 12th.
“We’re ready to get back to Ohio,” Danny Dietrich said in a press release published by Fully Injected Motorsports. “We’ve been making this trip for so long that it’s just automatic. A big thanks to Gary [Kauffman] for giving us the go ahead to do it again. We hope to pick up right where we left off and get it done.”
The Ohio Sprint Speedweek schedule looks like this:
June 12 | Attica Raceway Park
June 13 | Sharon Speedway
June 14 | Millstream Speedway
June 15 | Wayne County Speedway
June 16 | Eldora Speedway
June 17 | RAIN DATE
June 18 | Waynesfield Raceway Park
June 19 | Fremont Speedway
June 20 | Atomic Speedway
Dietrich is heading into Ohio Sprint Speedweek with some momentum. This past weekend he battled with the All Star Circuit of Champions at Williams Grove for the Lynn Paxton Classic on June 5th and finished second in an exciting battle with Troy Wagaman Jr., where he initially surrendered the lead having to take evasive action to avoid a lap car. However, he was able to get it back with 5 laps to go. Unfortunately, he slipped up the track in turn 3 and allowed Wagaman to get back past him.
Dietrich followed that up with another second at BAPS Motor Speedway behind winner Cameron Smith. He spoke about his finish with Sprint Car Unlimited, “We were really, really good again tonight. I’m still baffled about how much faster the 1A was after the yellow. I don’t know what he tuned on under caution, or if he just got up on the wheel, or maybe he was falling out of the seat. I don’t know. But he did a good job on the restart off of four. He got a big enough of a gap that I really wasn’t even in the situation to kind of close on him, or make a move on him. Obviously, I was three quarters of a straightaway behind. It’s just baffling to be that much faster before the red that I didn’t even think he was the leader at the time. Just Wild. Wild, to me.”
“But we had good speed,” he continued. “Felt like my old self again. We’ve dealt with this before. We run second with a really fast car and tonight’s one of them nights where you don’t hang your head. You realize that you were fast, it’s just the caution didn’t fall at the right time, which has happened probably about six times this year, but that’s what it is.”
Overall, Dietrich has two wins on the season. The first came at Port Royal Speedway in the middle of March and then at Lincoln Speedway at the beginning of April. He’s also racked up 14 Top 5s and 23 Top 10s in 29 feature starts.
Each race on the Ohio Sprint Speedweek will pay a minimum of $7,500 to-win. The biggest payday is the finale at Atomic Speedway on June 20th, which pays $10,000 to-win. The point fund for 2025 paid out a total of $25,000 with the winner getting $5,000. It’s unclear if it will be the same for this year or not.
Previous series champions include:
- 2024: Cap Henry
- 2023: Tyler Courtney
- 2022: Justin Peck
- 2021: Tyler Courtney
- 2020: Aaron Reutzel
All the races will be streamed on FloRacing.
