James Trantina III announced he’s added a second super late model to his stable with Cody Overton piloting the second car and joining Dan Ebert.

In a press release shared to his Facebook page, Trantina announced, “Cody Overton and James Trantina III are excited to announce that Overton will join Trantina’s Triple B Motorsports Team, teaming up with Dan Ebert for the remainder of the 2026 season in a Super Late Model.”

Trantina commented, “Cody and I met a couple of years ago at the WISSOTA 100 in Fergus Falls, MN and we have been in touch since. I made the trip to Volusia for the first time to watch and Cody was having some bad luck. I helped out a small bit and we continued to stay in touch.”

“We came to an agreement to get back in an open late Model full time and I’m really excited to have a gasser like him join our team,” he continued. “I’ve been talking to a few people to add a second driver on the Super Late Model program and just couldn’t make a deal until now. I wanted someone with experience and someone that will fit with our operation. Cody checks all the boxes and is ready to get back at it. We are all very excited to see where this takes us and what the future holds for both of us.”

Overton shared his gratitude for the opportunity, “James is just a true blessing man. He is awesome. He helps so many people and I am just so thankful that he picked me. He has always been there for me and he just gives and gives. It’s just awesome to be able to get to do it with him for sure.”

Overton will run his traditional No. 97. The car will be black with teal and white trim and outlines. As for the chassis it’s Longhorn with a Clements Racing Engine. The car is sponsored by Trantina’s Collins Bros. Towing of St. Cloud as well as M&M Painting & Construction, Granite Hauling & Grading, M&S Concrete, Budweiser, Tribble Electric, S&S Fishing & Rental, Boswell Oil, and Kicklighter Company. The press release also noted that other sponsors “are currently being finalized.”

The duo will be in action for the first time together on Monday, June 22nd when the World of Outlaws Late Models thunder into Ogilvie Raceway in Ogilvie, Minnesota.

On Facebook, Overton also shared, “We are excited to officially make this announcement and look forward to hitting the ground running. We are truly thankful for this opportunity and appreciate everyone who has helped make it possible.”

Overton’s original plan for the 2026 was to compete with the World of Outlaws Late Models as an owner and a driver after his previous car owner Dave Steine decided to scale down his operation. Overton explained to WorldofOutlaws.com, “Dave, he’s still going to help a little bit, just kind of back scaled.”

“I had to kind of take it all over and start doing it myself running as my own team, so that’s going to be a big change for this year,” he said. “He’ll still direct me and help me, look out after me, I guess. It’s just going to be a lot different, I suppose. I’ve got to start nickel and diming more, but for the last two years I’ve been with him, I’ve kind of ran it like it was my own. I watched what I spent, I didn’t just go spend reckless money because it wasn’t mine.”

As Trantina mentioned, Overton then suffered some horrible engine issues during the DIRTcar Sunshine Nationals at Volusia Speedway Park. In fact, he originally indicated that his Speedweeks would be over “after failures in both of our motors last night.”

He explained what happened telling DirtVision, “Practice day, made it out there. Put it in high gear. Made it down the back straightaway and put her back in the fence. Blew the first one up. Getting my second one and I made it down the front straightaway. Took her out of the gate again. I don’t know just crazy freak deal is what happened. One was brand new. The other one was the one I ran from last year. It just wasn’t kind of meant to be.”

He then clarified that he did not think his entire Speedweeks would be over, “I didn’t think I was going to be completely done. It was just going to take a little more time than I thought. And I know getting into this: buying it, owning it, everything. I knew a motor was going to blow. Didn’t know when. Didn’t think it was going to be the first night. So that made it a lot worse.

“It was just going to take me some time,” he continued. “But then I was just coming through the pits and the guy that helped me doesn’t want to be said or talked about. He’s anonymous. So he told me, ‘Hey, I got a motor for you. Do you want to race?’ And I said, ‘I’d love to.’ And he said, ‘Well, you need to run them points.’ And he made it happen. He got me a motor here and that’s where we’re at.”

Overton would continue to compete through Speedweeks albeit he would compete with Bruce Kane Racing with the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series at All-Tech Raceway with engine issues still plaguing him. He would continue in the Bruce Kane car at Ocala, but would jump back into his own equipment for the beginning of the Lucas races at Golden Isles before hopping into Tyler Bruening’s ride after he was injured to close out Speedweks.

From there, Overton competed in his own stuff at Modoc, where he finished second behind his brother, Brandon, in the co-sanctioned Spring Nationals and Southern All Stars race. He then made a number of crate starts before getting back into a super at Hartwell Motor Speedway where he finished 14th with the Southern All Stars. Most recently Overton competed up in South Dakota where he bagged a win in WISSOTA country at Casino Speedway on June 7th. He also grabbed wins in crate races at Modoc in the middle of April and Southern Raceway in the middle of May.
