The DIRTcar Summer Nationals announced that due to heavy rain and the expectation of more, officials made the decision to postpone the races scheduled to take place at Kankakee County Speedway tonight, Wednesday, June 10th, and Peoria Speedway on Thursday, June 11th.
In a blog post the series stated, “The decision was made keeping the best interests of drivers and fans in mind, with thunderstorms projected around race time at Kankakee tonight, and the Peoria pit area already flooded and needing time to dry.”
Tonight’s race at Kankakee will now take place on what was the lone empty date on the tour’s schedule, Monday July 6th. As for Peoria, the track will take over Poplar Bluff Motorsports Park’s June 22nd date. According to the Summer Nationals, Poplar Bluff Motorsports Park pulled the date because they would “not have the track ready in time for their race date.”
The Summer Nationals is expected to be back in action at Coles County Speedway on Friday, June 12th.
Shannon Babb is the current leader after the series opening race at the Brownstown Bullring on Tuesday, June 9th. He has a 5 point advantage over Tanner English,w ho finished second, and a 10 point lead over Frank Heckenast Jr., who finished third.
Babb collected his 103rd win with the series and had high praise for it saying in victory lane, “It’s worked out good for me because it’s just ‘Let your hair down’ type racing. You don’t have to be here early and you don’t have to look so good. So you just kinda come here and race. I think that fits the Midwest guys pretty well.”
