One week after reaching Victory Lane in weekly action at Brockville Ontario Speedway, Gavin Eisele did it again on a bigger stage.
The LaFargeville, NY driver scored the $1,400 (CAN) win in round two of the DIRTcar Sportsman Series North Region, besting Jefferey Lapalme and Shane Pecore.
Forty laps and a tricky bullring stood between 31 DIRTcar Sportsman Series drivers and glory at “The Bos”. At the drop of the green flag, pole-sitter Michael Dillon jumped out into an early lead after fending off second-place starter Tristan Ladouceur.
An early caution on Lap 3 set Dillion up alongside Eisele. Dillion, from Odessa, ON, held the lead on the restart until lap nine when Eisele made the move, which pulled Jeffery Lapalme through into second as well.
However, a Lap 16 caution re-racked the field, pitting Eisele against Lapalme in a restart duel. That duel didn’t last long, though, as Matt Mould brought out the red flag with a hard crash. Once the race continued, only a handful of caution flags slowed down Eisele as he drove to another DIRTcar Sportsman North Region victory.
“Two in a row and the car’s been pretty good here,” Eisele said. “It was heavy and narrow, but you could fit two cars tightly. I kept the car pretty free all night and didn’t know what to expect, especially with that No. 0 car [Shane Pecore] climbing up the ranks, there. I was getting really nervous. We stayed strong until the end and came out on top.”
Lapalme finished second, sandwiched between two of the best DIRTcar Sportsman drivers in the highly competitive North Region.
“That was pretty good,” Laplame said. “The track was fast, and we are better on slick tracks. It was pretty hard to make a fast car today.”
Pecore, the defending North Region champion, started sixth and made his way onto the podium with authority. He slid into third just before halfway but never had a shot at the lead.
“It’s tough when the track is so fast,” Pecore said. “You have to pick your battles and take what you can get. We charged from sixth to the podium after quick-time and winning our heat, so you can’t ask for much better than that.”
Brennan Moore and Tristan Ladouceur rounded out the Top 5.
