Drake Troutman confirmed he split with G.R. Motorsports following the World of Outlaws race at Ogilvie Raceway on Monday night, where Troutman finished 23rd after suffering some kind of engine failure.
It was initially rumored that the two had split by Live Dirt Updates, who shared this morning, “I’m hearing Drake Troutman is no longer with GR Smith Motorsports?”
Kyle Armstrong then claimed, “I saw the Team 22, Inc hauler on I-39 near Bloomington, IL pointed south earlier today. That’s not in the direction of Fergus Falls for those watching at home.”

The Facebook page Dirt Behind The Scenes then claimed, “In a shocking turn of events I’m hearing Drake Troutman … has parted ways with G.R. Smith Motorsports after last nights race at Ogilvie Raceway.”
“It has long been rumored that Jerry Foster, the owner of the #5 modified that Drake often wheels had been gearing up to go late model racing with Drake tapped as the driver, and this certainly seems to bring a little credibility to those rumors,” he added.
Troutman then issued a statement to Dirt Behind The Scenes confirming the split, “It was more of a mutual decision to do it now rather than later. I can’t thank them enough for what they did for me and the opportunity.”
In a post to Facebook, Troutman added, “There is no bad blood… I have a lot of respect and very much appreciation for what GR and his whole family has done for my racing program. He gave me and my whole crew an amazing opportunity. We are working on some things right now and getting a game plan together for the remainder of the year and beyond. As for the keyboard warriors on either side of the story, the best thing to do is keep the drama out of it. This racing deal is tough, it’s expensive and it’s a constant grind. Again, I appreciate GR and his family and have a lot of respect for them. As far as me and my crew goes, we are racers… and racers race. We will be back soon.”
Troutman is currently fifth in the World of Outlaws Late Models standings. He currently sits 373 points behind current leader Bobby Pierce. He recently showed really good speed challenging for the lead against Pierce at 141 Speedway on Saturday night before suffering an engine failure.
He also was very strong when the series was at West Virginia Motor Speedway earlier this month putting together an 8th and 2nd place finish.
Overall, Troutman has 10 top 5s and 19 Top 10s, but was winless in 31 feature starts. He is the only driver in the top five in points that does not have a win.
