Brandon Overton issued a brief and succinct response to Ricky Thornton Jr. via social media following the conclusion of the Firecracker 100 at Lernerville Speedway on Saturday night.
In the first heat race, Thornton started on the pole while Overton started outside of him. Thornton got a good start as Overton was back at his bumper as they drove down the front stretch. However, as they drove into turn 1, Overton pulled back even with him and they stayed side by exiting turn 2. Thornton then moved up the track down the back stretch pushing Overton over the edge. Overton got on the binders and that allowed both Hudson O’Neal and Brian Shirley to get past him and put him back to fourth. That’s where he would finish, but it did allow him to transfer to the feature albeit it gave him a 13th starting position instead of potentially on the pole or even 5th.
Following the heat race, Thornton spoke with FloRacing’s Ben Shelton telling him, “I’m tired of 76 getting to jump the start. I think that’s the fifth time this year. I guess if his crew guys want to get mad, they know where our trailer is at.”

Overton and his team initially responded writing, “Actually, we had a good start…..HAD.”

Then in a recap post of the Firecracker 100 on Facebook he and his team also stated, “Firecracker 100 — Started 13th, fell back to 18th early and charged up to a 4th place finish. Didn’t jump any starts.”
As Overton and his team shared, he hustled back to fourth after falling back to 18th. As for Thornton, he had a rough feature. After starting on the pole he ran around fourth and fifth for about 30 laps and then slipped back to sixth on a restart with 69 laps to go.
He settled in there for the next 20 or so laps, but on a restart with 49 to go, Gregg Satterlee slid up the track in the middle of turns 1 and 2 right in front of Thornton. Thornton appeared to try to avoid him by cutting underneath him, but instead ran over Satterlee’s left rear. They then appeared to get stuck together for a few seconds as they exited turn 2. The contact caused significant damage to Thornton’s front end and his car was never the same afterward. He ended up finishing in 18th.
He is now sixth in the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series Championship standings, 505 points behind current leader Hudson O’Neal. He’s 50 points behind fifth place Max Blair, who was able to take the fifth spot in the standings from him with a sixth place finish.
