Brenden “Butterbean” Queen revealed that he has plans to compete in a super dirt late model later this year with the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series.
Ahead of the Thunder Road Harley-Davidson 200 at South Boston, the late model stock car standout and CARS Tour champion turned NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series competitor spoke with Stock Car Report about his dirt late model plans, “We got a surprise car on the way and plan to maybe do some Lucas Oil stuff and definitely looking at the Dome this year. So just want to go have fun and try to make the show. That’d be a win and have a good time doing it.”
“I’m thankful for the Staton family for supplying me dirt cars to go drive whenever and looking forward to having some fun doing that on some off weeks,” he added. “We’d like to go to Eldora, but just got to look at the schedules. Obviously, my job in the Truck Series with Kaulig Racing is my priority, but if we can make some off weekends work and it works out, I wouldn’t say no.”
He did indicate that he plans to compete sometime in August. It’s quite possible that means he could roll into Kentucky and make an appearance during the 44th Annual Sunoco North/South 100 at Florence Speedway, which takes place from August 6-8th. The NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series is off that weekend and does not compete in August until the 14th at Richmond. Another possibility is The Rumble by the River at Port Royal Speedway on August 28th and 29th.
As for what he’ll be running, Queen revealed, “I guess I can kinda say it. I mean, I think people are kinda finding out. Definitely going to have a Longhorn here soon. Looking forward to the next venture.”
Queen is no stranger to a dirt late model, he regularly competed at Dixieland Speedway in the track’s limited late model class over the last few years. He got his first win in 2022 and won four more that year for a total of five wins on his way to not only the track’s Rookie of the Year title, but the overall track championship as well. In 2023, he also competed in an Ultimate Super Late Model Series race at Halifax County Motor Speedway, where he finished 9th. According to My Race Pass, his last appearance on dirt was at Dixieland where he finished 9th back in October 2025.
He is also not the first NASCAR driver to dip his toes back into dirt as he climbs the ladder. Carson Hocevar notably competed in the Gateway Dirt Nationals in 2023 and then again last year in 2025. He’s also made appearances in the FloRacing Night in America Series at Spoon River, Lincoln Speedway, and Eldora this year while also competing in a preliminary night for the Dirt Late Model Dream at Eldora.
Kyle Larson also regularly competes in a 410 Sprint Car with the High Limit Racing series while also competing in prestige events such as the Tulsa Shootout and Chili Bowl Nationals. Christopher Bell also has competed multiple times on dirt this year, first during the Chili Bowl Nationals and then later in a big block modified with the Super DIRTcar Series alongside NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series veteran Stewart Friesen. Ty Gibbs has also wet his feet at the Tulsa Shootout and Chili Bowl Nationals along with select Sprint Car races such as the World Finals last year and at the Dirt Track at Las Vegas with High Limit earlier this year. Corey Day also continues to make numerous Sprint Car starts even with his transition to NASCAR.
