Cody Overton and his Triple B Motorsports Team will chase the Southern Nationals title that begins at Wythe Raceway this weekend.

Overton’s website lists that he will compete with the Hunt the Front Super Dirt Series at Lavonia Speedway on July 10th and then make the trip north to Wythe Raceway on July 12th to kick off the Southern Nationals. He will then compete in the other 10 races on the schedule until it concludes at Tazewell Speedway.

That schedule looks like this:

  • Sunday, July 12 – Wythe Raceway – $10,053 to-win
  • Monday, July 13 – Volunteer Speedway – $7,552 to-win
  • Tuesday, July 14 – Harris Speedway – $7,553 to-win
  • Thursday, July 16 – Modoc Speedway – $7,542 to-win
  • Friday, July 17 – Swainsboro Raceway – $7,553 to-win
  • Saturday, July 18 – Screven Motor Speedway – $10,053 to-win
  • Sunday, July 19 – Toccoa Raceway – $10,071 to-win
  • Tuesday, July 21 – Senoia Raceway – $7,544 to-win
  • Thursday, July 23 – Sugar Creek Raceway – $7,553 to-win
  • Friday, July 24 – North Georgia Speedway – $10,053 to-win
  • Saturday, July 25 – Tazewell Speedway – $10,053 to-win

On top of the purses at the individual races, the series has a championship points fund that sits over $21,000 for the top five in points. The Champion will receive $10,053, second earns $5,053, third gets $2,553, fourth takes home $2,053, and fifth gets $1,553. Drivers must compete in 80% of events in order to be eligible for the championship and points fund.

Of note, each driver’s worst race will be dropped including a missed race where the driver would have earned 0 points. However, a disqualification is ineligible to be dropped.

The series also has a Loyalty Program that pays show-up money to the top five at each event. The top three drivers with perfect attendance will receive $500 each night while fourth and fifth will receive $300.

Overton is no stranger to the Southern Nationals. He finished third in the series points in 2021 while also earning Rookie of the Year. He also bagged $10,053 last year with the series when he won at Senoia Raceway.

After his stint with the Southern Nationals, Overton will head west to Cedar Lake Speedway in New Richmond, Wisconsin to compete in the USA Nationals crown jewel event with the World of Outlaws Late Models that takes place between July 30 – August 1.

Overton is also participating in the race’s Funs Fund, which was founded in 2008 by Rich Olson to get top late model talent from the south to the race in Wisconsin. Specifically, he wanted to bring Arkansas racer Bill Frye to the event. He was able to raise to $2,800 in donations and Frye along with Will Vaught attended the race.

The event has evolved since then as fans donate to be able to vote for their favorite drivers to receive financial support to offset their costs. Additionally, top vote getters are guaranteed a spot in the Fans Fund Dash, a race that locks the winner into Saturday’s feature. Donors also get to take part in the Fans Fund Luncheon, as well as other events such as pit parties.
