South Boston Speedway announced that Landon Pembelton has been penalized for intentionally dropping debris onto the track’s racing surface.

In a penalty report issued on August 5th, the track announced, “It was determined that during Late Model Stock Car Feature 1, the driver of the No. 0, Landon Pembelton, dropped an object onto the racing surface, which caused a caution for debris.”

That caution came out with 30 laps left in the first of twin 75-lap features. At the time of the caution, Pembelton was running in fifth, over 3 seconds behind race leader Peyton Sellers.

He was running 5th at the time and eventually went on to win the race.

Following the restart, Pembelton got up to fourth place passing Dillon Harville. Then with 21 laps to go Peyton Sellers got into the rear of Trevor Ward with 21 laps left in the race spinning Ward around. Sellers was penalized for taking out Ward and sent to the rear of the field. 

On the next restart, Pembelton would work to the top of Andrew Grady and work past him after some beating and banging and then seemingly sail to the win over the next 18 or so laps.

The win would be stripped with the track issuing him a three-lap penalty for violating its rule on intentionally causing a caution. He would end up finishing in 13th.

Additionally, he was awarded last place position in the second feature. He had initially won that race as well. Finally, the track stripped him of all winnings from both features and placed him on probation through December 31, 2026.

With the penalties to Pembelton, Bobby McCarty was awarded the win for the first feature and Trevor Ward won the second feature.

Ward leads the Hitachi Energy Track Championship points standings. He has a 22 point lead over Peyton Sellers and a 24 point advantage over Pembelton. Conner Weddell is fourth, 32 points out, and Bobby McCarty is in fifth, 48 points behind.
