Dillon McCowan had one of the wildest nights of his life racing and it all began in his heat race when he went flying through a billboard in the middle of turns 3 and 4 and landed in the woods off the track.

McCowan initially spoke with FloRacing’s Ben Shelton immediately after McCowan was able to safely climb from the car telling him, “It takes a lot more to hurt me than that.”

As for what happened, he shared, “I got in there behind Brian [Shirley] and trying to make the show so I was wide open in there. I just tractioned up real hard and I was pretty much flipping before I knew I was in a bad spot. You know, I’ve biked up like that a lot. I mean, last week we were biked up 90% of the time on the race track we was on. I biked up and once the right rear wheel dug in, we were, I guess, ended up in the trees.”

McCowan briefly shared more details with StockCarReport.com in the pits following the wreck, “Got up on two wheels. Normally you can drive out of it. But biked up pretty hard and got into that fluff up there and when the right rear wheel caught it just went around. Went over. I thought I could save it, but once the right rear wheel dug in, it didn’t save it.”

Following the features, he shared additional information about the wreck, “I biked up. I think I caught a little side draft from the Loude kid. I hit one of them little holes, it like tractioned biked up. I thought I could drive out of it, but it just wasn’t the case this time. And we got far enough over there that the right rear wheel caught and just sent her flying. Took out a billboard, a tree, and everything else.”

“I was just wondering where I was going to end,” he relayed. “I had my eyes open, surprisingly. I need to take my hands off the steering wheel or I’d probably break them. I got my hands off the steering wheel and just held on for the ride. I don’t know how high I got, but it looked like really high when I was sitting in the race car.”

“We’ll get her put on the jig and go again,” McCowan added.
