Mat Williamson crossed the line in third with the Super DIRTcar Series at Weedsport for the Hall of Fame 100, but was disqualified after being light at the scales.

Williamson reacted to the disqualification in an interview with DIRTVision, “It was a big surprise. If anything Spot’s more cautious than I am with my own stuff. So that was a surprise. The tech inspectors rolled us over three times like the rulebook says and every time we were light. Weedsport’s got probably the most accurate scales that we go on. At the end of the day the car was light going over the scales. Everybody else made weight.”

“Our own fault,” he added. “It’s certainly, probably, definitely a nail in the coffin at this point. We’ll just have to rebound tomorrow.”

“It’s weird ’cause we’ve been struggling with this 88 car this year. Spot scales it really good and he does a really good job. His scale shows that it was 2370 so I’m about 170 lbs. We finished with three gallons of fuel. We scale with four. If anything this might’ve taught us that our scales are off a little bit. And might be a good thing going forward,” Williamson said.

When asked how light he was, Williamson shared, “I think they said there was four gallons left, which is what they scale with. And I don’t know exactly what the number is. I was trying to play the game, bounce around in the car. I think I was like 2489, 2490 area. Somewhere around there.”

“Definitely our own fault,” he reiterated. “Nobody to blame but us.”

According to the Super DIRTcar Series rulebook, all cars “must maintain a minimum weight of 2,500 lbs. following the completion of any event.”

The DQ saw Williamson fall to third in the Super DIRTcar Series points standings. Heading into the race he was 37 points behind leader Alex Yankowski, but after the DQ is now 79 points behind Yankowski in third. He is also now 14 points behind Matt Sheppard, who took the second spot from him after a second place finish at Weedsport.

Sheppard finished second to Stewart Friesen after the two battled side-by-side in the closing laps. However, Friesen was able to take advantage of lap traffic and get around him and get the win. Yankowski had crossed the line in fifth, but with Williamson’s DQ was moved to the fourth position.

The Super DIRTcar Series is back in action tonight as SummerFAST action heads to Brewerton Speedway in Central Square, New York.
