Nick Hoffman led for much of the beginning of the FloRacing Night in America race at Marshalltown Speedway. However, shortly after losing the lead he began to suffer mechanical issues that derailed his night and saw him finish in 19th.
On lap 15, Hoffman washed up the track exiting turn 2 and that allowed Bobby Pierce to slip underneath him and take control of the race. A caution for a flat tire for Dan Ebert would come out shortly after. A lap after the restart and Hoffman slowed on the back stretch to draw another caution.
FloRacing’s Trenton Berry initially reported, “Nick wants the hood off. He said he lost power steering coming off the corner and it pulled hard right.”
Hoffman would return to the race, but his struggles continued. When Bobby Pierce caught him to put him a lap down with 19 to go, he drifted up the track in turns 1 and 2 and allowed both Pierce and Sheppard to easily pass him. When the caution came out shortly after that with 17 to go for Josh Rice, Hoffman ended his night.
As for what exactly happened, Hoffman shared in a post to social media, “For those watching last night and some that weren’t. We led for a bit. I lost brakes pretty early. Under caution I switched to 4 wheel brake and then 3 laps after the restart my car hung a hard right into the fence down the straightaway.”
“We found that somehow almost all the fluid was out of the master cylinder but when I switched it to 4 wheel brake it had enough fluid still in that line and the line was pinched. Which locked my RF tire up and plugged me into the fence. Pretty wild situation. Luckily did not kill the car. We will try again tonight,” he concluded.

In a follow-up post he shared that that had never happened to him before, but that he got it all fixed before tonight’s race at Mason City Motor Speedway.
Not to me. We got it all fixed today.

The 19th place finish dropped Hoffman to fifth in the FloRacing Night in America points standings. Before the night he was 45 points behind leader Brandon Sheppard, but after the night he found himself 96 points back tied with Bobby Pierce.
The FloRacing Night in America only counts a driver’s eight best finishes. However, if there are less than eight races run all completed races will count. The series has run five races so far and tonight’s race at Mason City will be its sixth. It had two races get postponed for rain, but they already made up the race at Lincoln Speedway back in July and the originally scheduled season opener at LaSalle Speedway is scheduled to take place on September 15th.
