Billy Moyer shared his wisdom and knowledge during the FloRacing broadcast of the Wild West Shootout on Wednesday night and specifically discussed how he thinks drivers should react to sliders being thrown at them through the corners.

Moyer was asked by Ben Shelton, “When you go off in the corner and you see that Hail Mary slider coming and you see it’s that green 1 car (Tyler Erb), what’s going through your mind?”

After chuckling at the question, Moyer answered, “Well, in my aspect and I think this way-. When I see some of that stuff coming and they’re going to come across your hood — I call it across your air cleaner — you know, you just got to get on the brakes.”

“Because if you go and try and be a hero and hit them and spin them out like a lot of these guys do all you’re doing is tearing up your own stuff and you’re not going to finish the race if you tear your nose off of it anyway,” he explained. “What you can do is let him slide in there, and let him go, and just try to get your bearings back together and come back after ’em and do the same thing to them a lap or two later if you can.”

Moyer is expected to return to the booth this weekend. FloRacing shared on Facebook, “Billy Moyer, on the FloRacing broadcast team?! That’s right, the Hall of Famer is joining Wild West Shootout broadcast this weekend at Casa Grande!”

He also hinted at potentially being in the booth more often and turning into a career as he gets older.

What do you make of Moyer’s advice and more importantly do you think it will be heeded?
