Bobby Pierce broke down his opening night of the Wild West Shootout making it clear his 13th place finish was “not the performance we want.”

Pierce, who has dominated the Wild West Shootout while it was held at Vado Speedway Park over the last couple of years, qualified 11th in group 1 last night. That put him in 6th place starting spot in heat 1. He advanced two spots to finish fourth and lock himself into the feature. In the feature he started 13th and kind of stayed around there during the opening portion of the race. By the time the first caution came out for an Ethan Dotson flat tire, he was in 14th.

Pierce stayed in that 14th position through the middle portion of the race. However, after a series of cautions for flat tires in the final third of the race, Pierce, who had moved up one spot to 13th, but was at the tail of the end of the lead lap, made a decision to hit the hot pit to change tires with 9 laps left in the race after Jake O’Neil lost a wheel.

The pit stop seemingly did not make a difference as Pierce ended up finishing in 13th, the last car on the lead lap.

In a post to Facebook, Pierce assessed his run saying, “Not the performance we want, but overall, I know it’s a new track that has some crazy differences we gotta get figured out & we just needed some things to go our way on restarts & to draw/qualify in better.”

“Tonight serves as our half-time break I guess you could call it that, so we’ll see what plays the coach can come up with for tomorrow’s action,” he concluded.

The Wild West Shootout is back in action tonight for the second of six races. Action is expected to start at 3:30 pm MT with the grandstands opening a half hour earlier at 3:00 pm MT and the pit gates opening at 1:00 pm MT.
