Brad Keselowski shared that he broke his leg on a ski trip, but it was not on the slopes, but slipping on a piece of ice as he was exiting his vehicle.

Back in the middle of December, Keselowski he revealed he broke his leg and underwent surgery to repair it. RFK Racing initially stated, “RFK Racing co-owner and driver Brad Keselowski suffered a broken leg while on a ski trip with his family Thursday. Keselowski has successfully completed routine surgery, and doctors expect a quick and full recovery.”

Keselowski also shared as part of the announcement, “I’m grateful for the medical team who took great care of me and for the support system around me. My attention now is fully on recovery. I’m motivated to get back to full strength as quickly as possible and will work relentlessly to be ready for Daytona.”

In a post to his personal account, Keselowski added, “Life has a way of reminding you to slow down. Grateful for my family by my side, an excellent medical team, and the ability to take a few steps forward today. Focused on Daytona.”

Keselowski concluded, “Bonus – I’m now bionic!”

Now in an interview with Bob Pockrass, Keselowski shared exactly how he broke his leg, “I was on a ski resort trip and I took my daughter to lessons. I dropped them off at lessons at a kind of a drop off area. And after I got them at lessons, I got back in my truck, drove it to park it, and when I got out of my truck I slipped and fell on ice. It was kind of a freak accident. Just kind of fell perfectly on a spot that broke my leg.”

“So I wish it was some cooler story than that like jumping or doing something on the slopes. I think everybody thinks I did it on the slopes, which sounds a lot cooler than the actual story that I have. It was just a freak accident,” he concluded.

The injury will keep Keselowski out of the car for the upcoming Cook Out Clash at Bowman Gray Stadium. He’ll be replaced by Corey LaJoie. He is looking to return to the driver’s seat when the season officially kicks off at Daytona.
