Brandon Overton was the dominant car in the early portion of the National 100 at East Alabama Motor Speedway. However, he would suffer a mechanical failure that ended his night early.
On Facebook, Overton explained that he “broke a fan and destroyed the radiator tonight after leading the first 15 laps of the National 100.”
Overton was not the only one who had troubles during the race. Mark Whitener exited the race earlier. FloRacing reported that he broke a hub which resulted in a brake failure.
With Overton and Whitener, two of the favorites out of the race, the race came down to attrition between Dalton Cook, Jimmy Owens, and Terbo Tyler Erb. A little bit before the halfway mark, Terbo along with Garrett Smith, Kyle Bronson, Sam Seawright, and Montana Dudley all pitted to make adjustments to their cars. Meanwhile, Cook had taken control of the race with Owens waiting in the wins in second.
Owens would strike with an aggressive, but brilliant move heading into turn 1. After getting underneath Cook through 3 and 4, Owens shot to the bottom of 1 and 2 slid not only Cook, but the lap cars of Matthew Larson and Thomas Langley. Cook would get trapped behind both lap cars, but attempted to get back to the bumper with a heavy slider through 3 and 4, but he overshot the corner a little bit and allowed Owens to pull away and solidify the lead.
Owens would relinquish the lead when he pitted for fresh tires with about 20 laps left in the race when a caution came out. With Owens pitting, Cook reclaimed the lead, but Terbo would take it from him on a restart and never relinquish it. He went on to win his second National 100 in as many years.

In victory lane, Terbo said, “We’ve got something going on right there. I don’t know what it is, but the longer the race went on the better it was. I was just glad we finally got off that cushion there. It’s awesome to be here. I love coming here. … That was actually a really good race track for probably 40-50 laps there. I just felt the cushion was kinda dying so I moved down. Luckily, here, I’ve got enough friends that they be like, ‘Hey, I think you can make it on tires’ and all that. Just an awesome weekend.”
Owens finished in second behind Dennis Erb Jr., who quietly had a solid night. His team explained how he came up short, “In tonight’s National 100 at East Alabama Motor Speedway , it came down to tire & pit strategy like usual. Jimmy Owens started 4th & led laps 59-79 before pitting for fresh rubber. Jimmy Owens then rallied back up to third to finish only behind $30,000 winner Tyler Erb & runner-up Dennis Erb Jr.”
