Brandon Overton hunted the front to get his first win of the season at Needmore Speedway with the Hunt the Front Super Dirt Series.

Overton qualified fourth. That had him starting second in the second heat and that’s where he would finish. He started fourth in the feature and immediately found his way to second and began quickly closing in on race leader Ryan Gustin. He eventually made his move when Gustin got caught up behind the lap car of Jason Lively and had to check up on the back stretch. Overton pounced with a slider that looked extraordinarily similar to the one Terbo Tyler Erb threw on Jonathan Davenport out at Central Arizona Raceway during the Wild West Shootout Finale. His rear end went right across Gustin’s hood as the two raced through turns 3 and 4.

After making the pass, Overton began pulling away. However, he wouldn’t sail off into the sunset so easily. He had to survive a number of cautions after halfway including one for third place running Mark Whitener, who suffered a flat right rear tire, in order to come out on top, but he was up to the task and got the job done getting his first win of the season.

In victory lane, Overton said, “I was honestly kicking myself in the ass after I qualified. If there’s anything I know I can do I know I can qualify fast, and then tonight when it mattered I screw up and leave the car too tight, and just qualified bad.”

“I really honestly thought after the heat race — I knew my car was good — I just said, ‘Man, starting fourth it’s going to be hard to pass Gustin and Mark [Whitener]. Mark’s really good around here. Just like I said everything worked out in my favor.”

“We come here to try and get better in the slick because we were fading last week at Volusia. We’re just trying to work on our long run package. Couldn’t really tell nothing tonight, but, like I said, it’s red dirt. It’s what I grew up on. I should be good at this [expletive],” he concluded. “I hope this is our first of many this year. We’re all pumped up. We’re all working hard. … Just looking to a new year, a fresh start and see if we can’t get ’em.”
