Brandon Overton won his fourth race in a row on the opening night of the DIRTcar Nationals at Volusia Speedway Park and he sent a message to his haters in victory lane.

Brandon Overton put on a stellar performance last night. He was the fastest qualifier overall with a time of 15.853. He cruised to a heat race win and secured the pole position for the feature. During the 25-lap feature, he was only challenged at the beginning of the race by outside pole sitter Cale Dillard, who led the first lap. However, Overton was able to take it back on the second lap as the two raced side-by-side. However, by lap three Overton had fully cleared him and began pulling away.

Overton extended his lead to over two seconds over second place running Nick Hoffman when the caution came out on lap 13 for a slowing Chris Madden, who suffered a left rear flat tire. Overton had no problems on the restart and quickly pulled out to nearly a 1.5 second lead over his brother Cody Overton, who sneaked past Hoffman on the restart.

Following a caution for Cade Dillard on lap 18, who took his car to his hauler, Brandon Overton once again had a stellar restart pulling out to a 1.3 second lead. While Overton was checking out, Devin Moran found something on the bottom and went from sixth to challenge for second on the restart. He briefly was able to get into second, but Cody Overton was able to get back past him with a crossover into one that broke Moran’s momentum and stymied his charge to the front.

While Cody Overton and Moran battled, Brandon Overton checked out to a nearly 2.5 second lead and he did not look back at all going on to take home the checkered flag.

In victory lane, Overton sent a message to his haters, “It’s been good. I’m so glad I won because I’m so sick and tired of hearing this [expletive] about I don’t race against nobody. There’s no slouches anymore. if you’re racing a super late model no matter where we go in the country there’s somebody there that’s fast.”

“You couldn’t have scripted it any better,” he continued. “The only bad thing about winning is losing. You get a little taste and you want to win, you want to, you want to win, and when you lose, damn, it sucks.”

“I was nervous as hell again. I was just trying to keep my calm and my crew did a hell of a job. They were working on this thing, keeping her in tip top shape. This is how it’s supposed to feel,” Overton added.

The win is the fourth in a row for Overton. He previously won the opener for The Hunt the Front Super Dirt Series at Needmore and swept two nights at Screven for The Winter Freeze.
