Brandon Overton shared an update following the brutal wreck he was involved in at Smoky Mountain Speedway on Saturday night with the World of Outlaws Late Model Series.

With two laps left in the race, Overton looked like he had the race on lock. However, Dennis Erb Jr. got tangled up with Logan Zarin leaving Erb’s car sideways on the track right in front of Overton and the rest of the leaders. Overton had nowhere to go and slammed hard right into the side of Erb’s car. The contact was so hard Erb’s car was lifted up into the air and spun around. The wreck would also involved Chris Madden as Overton’s car clipped his as he spun around sending him spinning off the track. Additionally, Sam Seawright was also involved as Erb’s car hit him in the rear after Overton smashed into him.

Here’s a slow motion look at the moment of impact:

Following the race, Stock Car Report spoke with Overton. He shared, “I’m all right. Just a little-. I don’t know how to explain it: tight, sore in the chest. Yeah, it was a hard lick. Pry second hardest hit I’ve taken. Eldora probably being the first one and that one hurt.”

When asked what happened, Overton said, “I really don’t even know. I was behind the 49 [Jake Timm] and maybe Seawright or Morey, one of the Coltman cars and the 49 [Jake Timm]. I was trying to get in between them to pass ’em and still trying to protect. So I was really focusing on not sliding out from behind ’em and I’m just kind of going whichever way Jake Timm was going, right. He was going low and I’m like, ‘Alright, I’m going to pass him on the top getting into three. So as soon as he went down, I swung out and Dennis Erb was sitting there. So I just let go of the steering wheel, tucked, and knocked the [expletive] out of him.”

On Facebook, Overton and his team also shared, “Led 12 laps until the crash with 2 to go and just had nowhere to go by the time I saw the 28. We’re alright though. We got this team and these cars rolling. Bud Boys will regroup and come back with some fire.”

“Appreciate everyone reaching out via text and social media and thankful for all the safety guys and track officials. All good here, just a little sore,” he added.

He plans to compete at Modoc Speedway in Modoc, South Carolina and Cherokee, Speedway in Gaffney, South Carolina next weekend. Both races are co-sanctioned by the Southern All Star Dirt Racing Series and the Schaeffer’s Oil Spring Nationals Series.
