Brian Brown pulled out of the Tuscarora 50 preliminary night at Port Royal after he set the fast time in qualifying in Group B and is packing up and going home.

Brown explained his decision to FloRacing, “Obviously, trying to race with a little bit messed up right hand and then a left hand that has to have a brace and a glove on top of that makes me feel like that I just can’t feel the wheel like I should. I tried to change the brace up between hot laps and qualifying and still just felt like the wheel is in my hand, but I can’t tell that it’s in my hand. So I’m just afraid. Probably erring on the side of caution.”

“If I was going to start on the front row all night long and not have to go at lap cars I probably could do it, but doing the situation like it is now I don’t want to take the chance of hurting myself or another competitor by me trying to be a hero,” he continued. “We knew this could be the situation. There’s not test other than to test and come here and try. And we’ve got a fast race car and a fast team. Just don’t want to get the Casey’s B21 hurt or myself or someone else.”

“So it’s definitely a punch in the gut. You definitely don’t want to have that fast of a car and just have to make that decision, but I feel its best for the situation going forward and there’s a lot more races ahead. This is not the last race of the year or my life, but if I put myself at risk or do something stupid it could be. It’s better off just to pack it up and try to get a little bit more healed up. I need to be able to race with no brace. That’s going to be key because that way I can feel the wheel,” he elaborated. “Now, it’s just trying to race-. Imagine in the winter time having five gloves on your hands trying to keep your hands warm. You can’t really tell you’re grabbing something because you’ve got so many gloves. Disappointing, but proud of our team for the effort. And live to fight another day.”

Brown went on to reveal he’s unlikely to compete the rest of the weekend and will go home. However, he did share that he called Kyle Larson to see if he could fill in for him, but he was unavailable.

Brown added further details in a post to X, “We tried to give it a go tonight with a fractured left Scaphoid bone on my left wrist. Unfortunately I couldn’t feel the wheel properly with a brace on it and felt like it was best for my safety and other competitors safety to scratch after qualifying.”

“The good news was We had a fast Casey’s & FVP Parts 21 and was able to set fast time in qualifying,” he continued. “I Need to give my wrist a few more weeks of healing so I can compete without a brace Thanks for the continued support.”

Brown was injured during the Knoxville Nationals where he suffered a broken right hand and broken left wrist during Thursday’s qualifying night.

His wife Heather Brown revealed the extent of his injuries on X, “One right broken hand and one left broken wrist and a few cuts and bruises BUT we have left the hospital!”
