Christopher Bell held nothing back as he blasted NASCAR, accused Chevrolet of “fixing” the race and said he was “cheated” out of a playoff spot.
Bell spoke to the media ahead of the NASCAR Cup Series Champion race at Phoenix and said, “I feel cheated. I feel cheated out of a chance to compete for a championship. It all stems from what happened … 15 or 20 to go whenever the race got fixed, manipulated by Chevrolet that forced our hands to do what we did.”
“And ultimately it forced me into a mistake on the last lap to get into the wall. And I think I never should have been in that position. Had the race been ran fairly the 24 car would’ve lost enough spots to get me into the final race,” he added.
Christopher Bell says he felt cheated and he should be in the Champ 4 after what he viewed as race manipulation by the Chevrolets, which he indicated was the reason Bubba Wallace fell back and the result of the actions of the final lap. pic.twitter.com/BS0u8nmz3A

When asked by Bob Pockrass if he should have been put into the Championship four and if Byron should have been penalized, Bell replied, “I feel like I should be in the championship four, yes. So, in the race when the manipulation happened it was clear that I needed a position. And with the 23 dropping back I got that position and whenever we crossed the finish line the 20 car was in.”
“So with the cards that were dealt the 20 car was in the position to make the championship event and we’re not in it,” he concluded.
Bell’s comments are unsurprising given he accused Chevy of race manipulation following the race. He told members of the media, “It was clear what was going on. The 24 came back to me probably a straight away or something. It just wasn’t meant to be today. And it wasn’t meant to be this year. And we accomplished a lot this year and I’m proud of that so just keep building on it.”
When asked if the penalty was unfair, Bell said, “I’m going to keep my mouth shut.”
