A new rumor alleges that Cody Overton could become the new owner of the car he drove in the World of Outlaws Real American Beer Late Model competition this year. That car is currently owned by Dave Steine through Tri Star Promotions.
This rumor comes from Justin Fiedler over at Dirtrackr. He shared a sarcastic update from Overton on what his plans will be for 2026. Fiedler shared, “He replied to me that he’s considering a full Cup series offer from Joe Gibbs Racing.”
Outside of Overton’s sarcasm, Fiedler shared, “One rumbling I’ve heard is that Overton could take over that two team as car owner. Dave Steine had been mulling an end to team ownership.”
Fiedler is not the only one to share a rumor about Overton. Back on November 19th during an episode of Rippin the Lip, Cody Earley, the announcer for CRUSA shared, “Cody told Chance, which Chance is one of our series officials and he’s the one that owns Needmore. Cody told Chance that he was going to run the CRUSA tour next year because we were going to have like 15 or 16 $10,000 to wins. And plus he said he wants to win that before its all said and done ’cause he’s run it quite a bit, but never committed to it. But he wants to get that new car that he’s built out again.”

During the World of Outlaws Awards Celebration following World Finals it appeared that Steine would no longer operate the team. An emotional Overton implied as much when he said, “Dave, he’s done everything for me. He’s got me yearning. The man, I just owe him everything. He’s awesome. If I never get to do it again I appreciate everything, Dave. He’s been really good. He’s been like a dad to me. … I hate to get emotional, but the dude’s done way more for me than anybody has ever wanted to do.”
Overton had a strong start to the 2025 season where he led the World of Outlaws points standings heading into the DIRTcar Nationals at Volusia. Overton finished 8th in overall points with 6 top 5s and 20 top 10s. His best finish came at the season opener at Volusia Speedway Park with a 3rd place. He matched that finish in October with a third at Boothill Speedway.
Outside of the Outlaws he did have a number of wins at Screven, Senoia, and Montpelier.
