Cory Hedgecock shared an update after he was involved in a WWE-style fight with Michael Page following the conclusion of the Hunt The Front Super Dirt Series race at Senoia Raceway on Saturday night.
Hedgecock and Page got into each other on the first lap of Heat 3 during the event. Page started on the inside with Hedgecock outside of him on the front row. Coming out of turn 2, Page ran a slider line and drifted up the track and slammed his rear into Hedgecock’s front end who was still outside of him. The contact killed Hedgecock’s momentum and sent him into the outside wall. Page would eventually win the heat while Hedgecock rallied back for a third place finish after falling to fourth after the contact.
Following the heat race, Page told Hunt The Front TV, “Hate it. The track right now forces you to fight for that top and you have to kind of take it. And I was just there where I could and I did. But this place makes you get up on the wheel. Hopefully, we can all make it work tonight.”
On the last lap of the feature the two would get together again. This time Cory Hedgecock pulled the slider on Page through three and four. Hedgecock got underneath Page and slid him all the way into the outside wall. Page hit it and got up on two tires. He would eventually cross the line in fifth.
On the cool down lap, Page got to the rear of Hedgecock and began pushing him out of turn 2 and down the back stretch. He eventually got his nose up and under Hedgeock’s rear tires and drove him into the inside wall. After contact with the wall, Hedgecock nearly flipped, but came back down on Page’s nose with the his car perpendicular to Page’s. Both drivers then exited their vehicles and began shouting at each other. Page climbed to the top of his car and began to move toward Hedgecock while a track official attempted to stop by grabbing his ankle and pulling him backward. Hedgeock then took the opportunity to leap across his car on top of Page. The two then wrestled each other onto the ground. A melee ensued, but track officials including track promoter Bubba Pollard began breaking it up immediately. However, more and more people began crowding the scene.
Hedgecock was eventually extricated from the scene by a law enforcement officer.
In a post to Facebook, Hedgecock shared that he was not taken to jail, but that he “did get cuffed.” He wrote, “Didn’t go to jail, did get cuffed, Bubba [Pollard[ is my boy now. Had a scuffle, i can fight 1, but not 10. I’ll wear an ass whoopin’, and that was regardless totally worth it. Waiting to see what HTF does to me as far as punishment, it is what it is. Got a fast ass racecar.”
According to My Race Pass, Hedgecock was awarded with the third place finish while Page was disqualified. It’s unclear what Page was disqualified for.
Despite Hedgecock finishing on the podium in third, he saw Jimmy Owens extend his point lead to 32 points after winning the race. Owens was able to take advantage of Joseph Joiner slipping up in turns 1 and 2 and hitting the wall with 9 laps to go. Owens dove to his inside and drove right past him and never looked back.
