Danny Dietrich Puts Pennsylvania Tracks On Blast For Poor Track Preparation

Danny Dietrich called out Pennsylvania dirt tracks for a lack of poor preparation that is leading to poor racing.

In a post to Facebook, Dietrich made no bones about it saying most tracks in Pennsylvania suck albeit with a few exclusions. He then rhetorically questioned, “What happened to old school track prep? What happened to using a DISC to tear the track up? What happened to PROGRESSIVE banking?”

Next, he answered his own question, “What happened is we have a damn “laylay” tiller that scratches about 2″ of the surface.. if were lucky. AND I watched a track “laylay” the other week and not add water during the daylight.”

Dietrich then shared what he wants out of track preparation, “The old days of prepping a track must be to far gone. 10″.. hell maybe 14″ of curb/cushion would be nice if its high enough up the track. MAKE IT TECHNICAL. MAKE A CUSHION THAT WILL MAKE A CAR GET UPSET. This style of racing where we have to drive straight as an arrow.. through the middle.. rubber down from the LR.. its getting old. Tracks around here suck 75% of the time.”

In comparison, he praised the tracks in Ohio, ” It’s amazing when we go to Ohio how things change. We go to Ohio and all of a sudden its a drivers race track. It’s no wonder PA tracks dont have full grandstands for a ‘semi’ regular show.”

Dietrich did not stop his criticism with track preparation. He pointed to the length of the programs as well, “Then we turn around run time trials, 10 lap heats, and long a-mains. More laps on our engines, raising costs for owners. Just because there’s a name on the program for tonight’s event doesn’t mean we need more laps.. and dont get me started on planned fuel stops.”

He then returned to track prep, ” Do we wanna get started with the fact that more laps mean more rubber down.. at the end of the night have you ever seen someone scratch the surface of the clay and throw the clay away? Cause I havent… so what do we do? MIX THE RUBBER INTO THE CLAY! After so long what do you thinks gonna happen?! More and more rubber built into the clay mixture… then rubber comes in faster. At the end of the day, do tracks realize how important it is not to have rubber put down on the surface?!”

Finally, he challenged tracks to fix these issues and specifically called out Williams Grove, “Tracks. I challenge you all to fix it yourself. Do something. Tracks with a crown (reverse banking), lack of water, rubber down (some of you have rubber on the straighaways), and for the love of god Williams Grove dont smash down the damn cushion when you actually get one forming!”

Despite the pointed criticism, Dietrich has found success this year at the Pennsylvania tracks. He got his first win of the year at Lincoln Speedway in March and won there again in June. He’s also won three times at BAPS Motor Speedway. And while he specifically called out Williams Grove, he won there back in July and more recently in the middle of August. He’s also won at Selinsgrove.

Dietrich is currently the points leader at both Selinsgrove and BAPS Motor Speedway. He’s 8th at Williams Grove, 9th at Lincoln Speedway, and 14th at Port Royal.
