Devin Moran explained what happened between him and Jonathan Davenport while the two were racing for second just before the halfway mark of the Jackson 100 at Brownstown Speedway.

With 56 laps left to go in the race, the leaders were navigating lap traffic while also trying to work around each other. Moran poked his nose underneath Davenport going into turn 1, but had to settle in behind him coming out of the turn. However, going into turn 3, he once again dove underneath Davenport and the two came together in the middle of 3 and 4. The contact sent Davenport around and back to the rear of the field.

Following the spin, Davenport expressed his frustration with Moran by revving his engine and shooting up the track at him while it was under caution albeit with seemingly no intention of hitting, but just letting him know his displeasure. Davenport then pulled up to Moran’s door down the back stretch and pulled in front of him in another show of displeasure.

Moran went on to finish second and in his podium interview with FloRacing’s Dustin Jarrett, Moran was asked about the contact. He said, “Definitely didn’t want that to happen. And he was just laying out really hard and I filled the gap right there. And we must have hit tire to tire because neither of us had any marks on our cars or anything. So really, really unfortunate. I really didn’t want that to happen. I wanted to race it out. Just a bummer. But overall, it was a good run for sure.”

On Facebook, Davenport’s team shared, “Rallied back to finish sixth in tonight’s Jackson 100 at Brownstown Speedway. Got spun out of second shortly before halfway and had to charge from the back of the pack. Had a fast racecar the last two nights, but not much to show for it…”

With the first two races of the Big River Steel Chase for the Championship behind them, Ricky Thornton Jr. remains atop the standings. He has an 80 point lead over Devin Moran. Jonathan Davenport has fallen to third. He’s 160 points behind. Hudson O’Neal is currently in fourth, 270 points behind Thornton.
