Donald McIntosh shared an update on what his status is after he raced with Billy Hicks Motorsports this past weekend at Golden Isles Speedway for the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series.
McIntosh took over the #79 car after Hicks and Cory Hedgecock split ways. Hicks explained the reasoning for the split to FloRacing’s Kevin Kovac, “Things were just not working as smoothly as I thought it should and Cory didn’t think so either.”
“It just wasn’t gelling, and I knew I always gelled with Donald so I called him up to hook up and see what we can do again,” he added.
With Hedgecock out, McIntosh, who raced with Hicks last year and won the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series Rookie of the Year, was called on to replace him. McIntosh finished 28th in the A-Main on Thursday, but failed to make the show on Friday and Saturday night.
After the weekend, McIntosh shared he won’t be competing with Hicks full time moving forward, but they “may run another race or two together this year.” Instead, McIntosh will be “going to help crew for a couple of races with Garrett Alberson Racing-Roberts Motorsports.”
But ultimately, he is “looking for opportunities to drive.”
McIntosh previously spoke to Stock Car Report at the end of February and shared that he was preparing his 007 car for the Gauntlet at the Gap at Volunteer Speedway, “I’m working on my 007 car right now. Getting ready to try and run The Gauntlet at The Gap. I’ve got a few people that are going to help me. And I’ll run here and there. As far as racing a lot, there’s not a lot in the plans at the moment.”
If you are unfamiliar with his 007 car, McIntosh built the car back in 2018 and he’s “doing some updates on it and trying to get it closer to a modern car and then we’re going to put our Buick engine in it and race here and there at the current moment.” McIntosh won with the engine last year during the Southern All Star Dirt Racing Series’ Dixie Shootout at Dixie Speedway.
As far as whether you might see McIntosh at any Hunt the Front Super Dirt Series, Southern All Star or Spring Nationals race, he said, “I would love to. Unfortunately, I’m in a place to where it would take somebody that wants to support. I can’t do it myself. Like I said I’ve got a couple sponsors that are going to help me run 8-10 races, but it’s so expensive to race now. It’s going to be pick-and-choose. But the only ones so far is The Gauntlet at the Gap.”
