Fayetteville Motor Speedway announced it will shut down and the property owner Dohn Broadwell Jr. will sell the track after it canceled its last scheduled race of the year.
In a post to Facebook, track promoters David Mitchell and Shay Martin announced the track will shut down after it canceled its Michael Freeman Memorial Race that was expected to take place this Thanksgiving weekend. First, the duo announced the race’s cancellation, “With the forecast showing below freezing temps Friday night and only a high of 48° on Saturday, we are canceling this weekend’s (November 29th)final race. It will not be made up. This means the season is over.”
Next, they shared, “We know the rumor mill is going strong, however we have been told more than once by the property owner that this was the final season of racing at the track as he moves forward with selling the property.”
Mitchell and Martin went on to thank everyone who has supported the track, “We would like to thank those who have been kind enough to support us during our tenure as promoters. Lots of supportive drivers/teams and fans alike have been with us since we took over in 2020. We appreciate that and we wish you many years of great racing at the other tracks.”
“A special thanks goes out to our staff!! We feel truly lucky to have had such a wonderful group of people by our sides through this adventure,” they added. “We are race fans at heart, just like you, so we’ll be seeing you at the other tracks next year. Until then, enjoy the holiday season and let’s all look forward to 2026.”
The track regularly hosted the Carolina Clash Super Late Model Series typically hosting two races for the series every year. Winners at the track for the series include Donovan Jackson, Ben Watkins, Dustin Mitchell, Michael Rouse, and Willie Milliken.
The track also hosted weekly racing in a variety of divisions including 602 Late Models, 602 Modifieds, Street Stocks, Legends, Crown Vics, and Jr Sprints. This year’s winners included Dustin Watkins, Hunter Denny, Stephen Ford, Caleb Day, Mark Stewart, and Mason Rosser.
