Freddie Carpenter indicated that his hard wreck at Ocala could stop him from racing if he suffers similar symptoms caused by a wreck at East Bay in 2021.
At Ocala during his heat race, Carpenter was involved in a wreck with Ross Robinson. Robinson smacked the wall coming out of turn 2 with his right rear. The wall then sucked in the right front of his car as his rear end began to slide down the track. Carpenter, who was the only other driver committed to the top had no where to go and made contact with Robinson. The impact left the entire right side of Carpenter’s car mangled.

Speaking with FloRacing following the accident, Carpenter was first asked if he was okay. He said, “Yeah, I’m just beat up. I’m just beat up. Sore.”
Carpenter then described the incident, “I think it was that Ross Robinson in that 7 car, he hit the wall and I was already committed to the corner nowhere to go and I just blowed him up. And the way our cars was, his when he hit the wall the back end of his car came up and I was rolled over. And so my halo hit his rear bumper. I’d say his bumper was about that far from my head. (He pinched his fingers tightly together).”
When asked where this wreck ranked for him he said, “Probably second behind the one at East Bay a few years ago. It took me a couple of years to get over that one.”
Carpenter then joked about Florida tracks being rough on him, “You see the light at the end of the tunnel and then it’s an oncoming train.”
He went on to confirm that the car is “junk” albeit he said it could be repaired, but “it would never be right.”
From there Carpenter noted he plans to continue to compete in Florida Speedweeks moving forward, “I’m still in. I’m still in. It depends, you know, the last time it took me like six days for that concussion to hit me and it took two and a half years to get over it. So it just depends. If I get like that again I’ll stop racing. I’ll probably have Tyler drive it next year or something.”
However, he did make it clear he was feeling okay, “I’m feeling okay. Just a little cloudy. I feel okay.”
At East Bay in 2021, Carpenter got caught up in a wreck that sent his car spinning in a barrel role going into turn 3 after he made contact with Jeff Matthews.
He explained the incident to Outside Groove at the time, “Zack Dohm swerved to miss Jeff Mathews, who was turned into the wall. Zack’s car made contact with Mathews’ car, straightening it out on the racetrack, facing the wrong direction. Then, my car hit Mathew’s car right side to right side. My car ramped up over Mathews’ car and began flipping like a sprint car.”
