Gabe Zahner had a rough start to his Tulsa Shootout as he flipped multiple times and went up and off the track and eventually landed in a dumpster clearly labeled “No Parking” during a preliminary race at the Tulsa Shootout.
In race 15 of the Tulsa Shootout, Zahner, who was running 7th at the time in the Joe’s Racing Products Stock Non-Wing FuelTech heat race, corkscrewed as he was coming into the corner, it then turned into a barrel roll and was then launched up and into the fence where it made contact with one of the poles. The car then slowly slid down the outside of the fence and into the dumpster.
It’s unclear exactly how it started as neither of the replays caught the beginning of the wreck.

Zahner explained what happened to FloRacing’s Brian Ward, “I’m feeling good. I didn’t even know I went that high. I saw I was going to go run the high side and then next thing I know I was flipping. And I’m sitting on my side.”
“I’m just glad I’m okay,” he added. “I don’t know about my car, but that can be fixed. I can’t.”
He then shared what was going through his mind while he was sitting in the car inside the dumpster, “I don’t really hear nothing. I’m just like ‘Oh [expletive]!’ And then I’m in the air. And then I guess I come out and I’m in a dumpster. So I guess it works out good, I guess. Glad my uncle is not too mad at me. Can’t replace me. You can replace the car.”
While it looks in all likelihood that his Stock Non-Wing chances might be done, Zahner is also entered in the Hyper Racing Non-Wing Outlaw class so he’ll be back on track on Wednesday when the Hyper Racing Non-Wing Outlaws have their heats.
