Garrett Alberson and his team revealed what caused the heavy hit he suffered at Lucas Oil Speedway during The Tribute to Don and Billie Gibson.
At the beginning of the race, while he was running in third, Alberson’s car whipped to the right and headed hard into the wall as he was heading through Turns 1 & 2. Alberson appeared to make a last second correction in an attempt to dampen the blow as he turned the car hard to the left in order to ensure the car was flush with the wall rather than going head first into it.

Alberson told Stock Car Report that it was a “hard one for sure.” and that he was glad he was okay and able to walk away from it. As for what caused the wreck, he and his team posted to Facebook, “Thanks to everyone for checking in on us tonight. Garrett is okay, ‘Fred’ however, is not. The RF tire blew out just like at Eldora.”
The team added, “We will bring ‘Flash’ out tomorrow, she promises to be on her best behavior.”
Alberson was the first to exit the race and finished in 24th. Hudson O’Neal was able to win the race and took over the fourth spot in the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series Big River Steel Chase for the Championship Presented by ARP Point Standings. Alberson is now 90 points behind O’Neal. O’Neal currently has 3655 points while Alberson has 3,565.
