Hudson O’Neal reacted to the contact with Bobby Pierce that occurred on lap 13 and took O’Neal “out of contention” for the win.
Pierce and O’Neal were involved in a wild battle alongside Brandon Overton and Tim McCreadie during the early portion of the race. Pierce threw a slider on lap 8 through 1 and 2 and O’Neal immediately responded with a crossover and then as he was entering three he pulled right up in front of Pierce.
After a caution on lap 12 for a Dustin Sorensen spin, O’Neal dove to the bottom down the back stretch and slid up through 3 and 4 passing both Brandon Overton and Tim McCreadie. Meanwhile, Pierce stayed on the bottom through the turns and got Overton and McCreadie as well. As they went into turn 1 Pierce and O’Neal were side by side. Bobby tried to run the bottom again, but he got loose and his back end began turning on him and he chased the car up the track. He not only chased his car up the track, but O’Neal’s as well and eventually put O’Neal into the wall.
It caused significant damage to O’Neal’s spoiler and after a caution for a Brent Larson spin, he fell all the way back to 14th on the next run. By the end of the race he was able to rally back and salvage a 10th place finish, but never sniffed the front again.
O’Neal recapped his night on Facebook writing, “Started 5th in the feature with a very strong No. 6 Longhorn. We raced our way up to 3rd by lap 12 when contact from the No. 32 resulted in heavy damage and took us out of contention.”
“Our car had the speed to contend for the win, but our night was cut short after the contact. We held on for a Top 10,” he concluded.
