Stewart Friesen’s wife, Jess, shared an update that Friesen will have to undergo surgery after he suffered multiple injuries following a horrific wreck at Autodrome Drummond.
Following a restart on lap 16, Friesen started in fourth and immediately went to the high side. Going down the back stretch, he found himself the top of three and ran out of race track. Friesen slipped off the top of the track and when he attempted to come back on going into turn 3, he clipped the outside wall and flipped upside down. His car then landed like a skateboard on the outside wall and exploded into flames. The car then corkscrewed off the wall and back on to the track. As it was about to land on its roof, he was struck by another driver before eventually coming to a stop.

After track officials were able to remove Friesen from his vehicle, which reportedly took around 30 minutes, he was transported to a local hospital. Now, in an update this morning, Friesen’s wife Jess shared that “CT scans have come back clear of any head, neck, or spine injuries. Unfortunately, he is still in a tremendous amount of pain.”
Next, she shared that he “has suffered an unstable/open-book pelvic fracture. Meaning his pelvis is broken in two or more places, with a large hematoma on the area.” Additionally, he “has a fractured right leg.”
“Both of these injuries will require surgery,” she continued. “Stewart was transferred to a larger hospital this morning for these procedures. His vitals are stable, and after receiving additional pain medication, he is in better spirits and resting.”
She then went on to thank Tommy Conroy and Martin Roy who stayed with Friesen through last night as well as everyone who has been praying for him. Finally, she thanked “the manufacturers who have made dirt modifieds as safe as possible, and to the track crew for their patience, and hard work getting Stew out of the car.”
