Billy Hicks Racing announced that Jeremy Steele will compete in his car moving forward after Hicks split with Cory Hedgecock during the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series event at Golden Isles Speedway earlier this month.

Hicks announced on Facebook, “We will be back in action this weekend at Cherokee Speedway with the Southern All Star Dirt Racing Series for the MARCH MADNESS/Ginger Owens Memorial with Jeremy Steele behind the wheel of the #79.”

“The rest of the season we intend to compete in some of the regional series as well as pick and choose events,” he added.

Steele also shared on Facebook, “Big news!! We will be at Cherokee this weekend in the Billy Hicks Racing #79, very thankful for this opportunity and looking forward to it!”

Speaking to FloRacing about the decision, Hicks said, “’I’ve been watching [Steele]. He is ready to go to the next levels and we want to help him get there.”

Steele won the Crate Racin’ USA Dirt Late Model Series championship last year in his rookie year. He had 5 wins, 10 top 5s, and 12 top 10s in 14 features. His five wins came at Swainsboro Raceway (2), Senoia Raceway, Magnolia Motor Speedway, and Needmore Speedway. And he won all the the races in dominant fashion. For the Pine Tree 100 at Swainsboro he led all 50 laps to claim the $10,000 to-win feature. He led all 40 laps at Senoia in August. He led 70 of 75 laps in the 21st Annual Governors Cup at Magnolia to get another $10,000 check. At Needmore for the Early Bird 50 he led all 50 laps to get another $10,000 check. Finally, he led all the laps but one for the 15th Annual Turkey 100 at Swainsboro for another $10,000 payday.

Steele has limited experience in a super dirt late model. His second race ever in a super was at Cherokee Speedway during the Freddy Smith Memorial back in November where he finished 4th. He did recently compete in a super at Lancaster this past weekend with the Carolina Clash. He finished second behind Ben Watkins.
