Justin Allgaier announced he plans to compete in the Gateway Dirt Nationals in the future.

During the FloRacing broadcast for the Thursday night portion of the Gateway Dirt Nationals, Allgaier was asked by Trenton Berry, “Do you ever have any aspirations to run this thing in the future?”

He replied, “I do. There’s an old Rayburn car sitting at our shop. It’s sitting out back. I keep saying I want to put it together, but I’m afraid it’s been sitting there too long to be able to revive it. But we haven’t been able to bring the modified here. This race, Cody [Sommer]’s done a great job. To come here, all these fans. This is such a cool event. All you guys at Flo for promoting the event like it is. I’m excited for it. Excited to be here and watch a lot of good racing.”

Allgaier is no stranger to dirt late model racing. He participated in the Prelude to the Dream at Eldora Speedway in 2010, 2011 and 2012. He finished 26th in 2010, 5th in 2011, and 10th in 2012.

He also regularly competes in his modified during the NASCAR offseason. This year he raced at Volusia Speedway Park during the DIRTcar Nationals at the beginning of February. His best finish was 2nd in Feature 5 on February 4th. He also had 3rd, 8th, 5th, and 16th place finishes. On Saturday he finished 6th in his B-Main.

Allgaier would not be the first NASCAR driver to compete in the Gateway Dirt Nationals. When the event also had Midgets on its schedule, Kyle Larson, Ryan Newman, Christopher Bell, Chase Briscoe, and Ricky Stenhouse Jr. competed in it. As for the late models Carson Hocevar previously competed in the event and will be on track again today. On the modified side Justin Haley ran in the event in 2023 and Kenny Wallace was a staple of the event in previous years.

He’s also not the first driver this year to express interest in competing in the event in the future. High Limit Racing champion Rico Abreu announced his intentions to compete in the event next year. Abreu wrote on Facebook, “I want to officially put my name in for the 2026 Gateway Dirt Nationals. This is not a joke. I’d love to do some beatin and banging with the fender guys at the dome! I’m going to watch this year and take some notes.”

In another post he added, “All I want for Christmas is a invitation to the 2026 Gateway Dirt Nationals.”
