Kasey Kahne will not be going sprint car racing for the foreseeable future as Kasey Kahne Racing makes big changes as Brad Sweet chases a High Limit Racing championship.

Originally reported by Jeremy Elliott of SprintCarUnlimited.com, FloRacing’s Kyle McFadden shared earlier this month that “Kahne is planning to park his No. 9 race team for foreseeable future, saying he’s devoting more focus toward being a team owner rather than a driver.”

Kahne also made adjustments to Brad Sweet’s team. Andrew Bowman became his new crew chief with his first day on the job last night during Sunday’s Capitani Classic at Knoxville Raceway. Sweet ended up finishing in 17th after starting 15th. Joining Bowman on servicing Sweet’s car are Tayte Williamson and Kyler Kervliet.

Sweet’s previous crew chief Tye Wolfgang has departed the organization. He posted on X, “Grateful for past opportunities, looking forward to what may be next. I’m actively seeking any and all opportunities to continue my career in the winged sprint car scene.”

The crew change comes a day after Sweet was disqualified from the 360 Knoxville Nationals on Friday for not making weight.

Just a few months ago, Kahne indicated he had just gotten back into sprint car form. “To do two and three quarter straight years has helped me a ton. I just have a lot more confidence. I can race and not just be completely worn out at the end of the races. I’m more relaxed. I’m more under controlled. I’m starting to understand the things that I need from a driving stand point and how to do it better driving job. I just think it’s taken me awhile. Having really good cars helps, but overall just understanding it and being able to relax and focus and enjoy it at the same has been something that hasn’t been that easy.”

Sweet is currently leading the High Limit Racing series. He has a 25 point lead over Aaron Reutzel, who sits in third, and a 29 point lead over Rico Abreu. Tyler Courtney sits in second place, but he won’t be continuing the season after suffering a back injury during the High Limit Racing Joker’s Jackpot race at Eldora Speedway on July 17th. Both Sweet and Reutzel took medical provisionals for the series’ most recent race at Lernerville after they suffered injuries at Eldora as well. Sweet suffered a concussion on Saturday, July 19th while Reutzel suffered a broken foot the night before.

Kahne was ninth in the standings 419 points behind Sweet.
