Kyle Busch has no plans on climbing back into a dirt late model any time soon.
Ahead of the NASCAR Cup Series race at Sonoma this past weekend, Busch was asked when he might race a dirt late model again. He answered, “I don’t have any plans for that right now. I don’t know. Brexton might get back into one before I do.”
Busch has sporadically hopped into a dirt late model over the last couple of years. Back in 2012 he won the Prelude to the Dream charity event beating out Tony Stewart, Donny Schatz, Ryan Newman, Aric Almirola, Dave Blaney, Danica Patrick, Bill Elliott, Kenny Wallace, Jimmie Johnson, and Ray Evernham among others.
More recently, he showed up at the Kyle Larson Presents FloRacing Late Model Challenge at Volunteer Speedway in March 2023 where he started 23rd and finished in 16th after receiving a provisional. In August of 2023, he also competed in a Brandon Thirlby prepared late model at Merritt Speedway in Michigan. He finished 22nd after starting 23rd. Following the race he posted on X, “Confirmed… I’m no Kyle Larson. Struggled hard tonight but thanks to Merritt Spwy and all the fans for pilling in the stands!”

Busch’s comments appear to rule him out of possibly showing up at the Gateway Dirt Nationals. A rumor from Dirt Behind The Scenes on Facebook claimed that “a very prominent NASCAR driver, who may or may not be a stranger to dirt, could be strapping down inside of a Super Late Model and tackling the Gateway Dirt Nationals this year inside The Dome.”
What do you make of Busch’s comments?
