Mansfield Speedway owner Matt Tifft, who was also a former NASCAR competitor competing in the O’Reilly’s Auto Part Series as well as the Cup Series, mocked current NASCAR Commissioner Steve Phelps by mocking up and selling new T-shirt designs based on Phelps and an unnamed individual’s comments.
On X, Tifft shared the designs writing, “Are you a stupid redneck? Well boy do I have a shirt for you.”

Tifft also promised fans that if anyone gets banned from wearing the shirts at NASCAR events in the 2026 season, they will be given free entry to Mansfield if you can provide proof that you were banned for wearing the shirt.
Immediate free entry to @Mansfieldspdwy if you have proof this happens to you btw https://t.co/JxNdQIQOvs

Former NASCAR Cup Series and O’Reilly’s Auto Parts Series racer Landon Cassill also weighed in on the shirts. He wrote, “Shirt looks cool but I can’t read it, what’s it say.”

As noted above, the shirts are based on comments from Steve Phelps and an unnamed individual that were made public as part of the ongoing court case between NASCAR and 23XI and Front Row Motorsports.
In one exchange with NASCAR’s Chief Media & Revenue Officer Brian Herbst, Phelps wrote, “Childress needs to be taken out back and flogged. He’s a stupid redneck who owes his entire fortune to nascar.”
In an exhibit of texts that the jury won’t get to see because would be used more as inflammatory are some texts showing Steve Phelps frustration over things Richard Childress said in August 2023. Texts are to VP Brian Herbst during/following a meeting (believe with some teams): pic.twitter.com/wWx6mAVuxY

As for the “Can’t Read” design that came in an exchange between Spire Motorsports co-owner Jeff Dickerson and an unnamed individual. The unnamed individual posited writing a book and selling it but believed the idea wouldn’t work because “our fans don’t all read and probably won’t sell.”
Another 10-page document featured messages between Jeff Dickerson and an unnamed person discussing a podcast appearance, talking points, whether Heather Gibbs is a “plant,” and how Dickerson’s appearance on “Business of Motorsports” would torpedo the negotiations.
