Mark Whitener and his team will not be competing with the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series at Ocala Speedway this week, and have explained why that is the case after originally planning to be there.

First, Whitener suffered significant damage to his car in a late race wreck at All-Tech with just 5 laps to go on the Saturday feature while he was running in the top 5. The car needed repairs.

Whitener informed FloRacing’s Michael Rigsby after the race, “We gonna go home and regroup. I’ve knocked the whole front end off that car. My son knocked the front end off his car. I’ve tore everything I’ve had up this weekend, but I had a blast doing it.”

“Probably, no Ocala for a few days. We need to regroup and get these things rebuilt. We going to still give it hell. We won’t quit,” he concluded.

In a post to Facebook, Whitener’s wife Bridgett Lee Whitener provided an additional explanation on why Whitener and the team won’t be at Ocala, “Unfortunately the Magicman will not be at Ocala Speedway this week. We really wanted to be there but it’s not in the cards for us.”

“1 motor is lapped out & the other motor broke,” she explained. “So we will be sitting this one out.Thank you to All of Our Great Sponsors who get us up & down the road.. We greatly appreciate everyone of you..”

Whitener performed admirably at All-Tech. On Thursday night he brought it home 10th. He improved to 6th on Friday night and looked like the car to beat for much of Saturday, but after knocking a spindle out of place he began to fall back and wound up in a dog fight for third with Brandon Overton. Unfortunately, he made an error in turns 3 and 4 with just 5 laps to go and got into the wall ending his night. He eventually finished in 19th.

It is unclear when Whitener will be back in action.
