Max McLaughlin announced he will not race for G.R. Smith and Team22 INC Motorsports next year.
In a post to Facebook, McLaughlin stated, “This weekend at Charlotte will be my last time driving for Team 22INC Motorsports. I’m beyond grateful for GR Smith and Stacey Smith for giving me the opportunity to live my dream as a full time World of Outlaws Driver and start my Late Model career, and for my buddy Scottie for hauling the merchandise trailer all over the country.”
He added, “I’m also very thankful for our great sponsors that helped us out this year, and most importantly for the friendship with the Smith Family and my little buddy Carson. I’m looking forward to ending the season strong this weekend at Charlotte, and I’m extremely excited for what’s next in 2025!”
Other than indicating he’s excited for 2025, he did not reveal what his plans are, but it does appear that he will continue dirt late model racing. McLaughlin is no stranger to asphalt racing in modifieds up and down the east coast. He’s also a veteran of big block dirt modifieds.
McLaughlin currently sits in 11th in the World of Outlaws points with 3 Top 5s and 8 Top 10s. He did nab a win at the Talladega Short Track on April 19th, but it was a non-points paying race ahead of the Alabama Gang 100.
He heads into the Dirt Track World Finals at The Dirt Track at Charlotte 222 points behind Dustin Sorenson in the race for the Rookie of the Year honors.
What do you make of McLaughlin splitting ways with Team 22INC Motorsports and GR Smith at the end of the 2024 season?
