McKay Wenger announced that he resigned from the Team No. 99 Rhyne Racing Engine Super Late Model team.
Wenger made the announcement on Facebook. He wrote, “I have resigned from Team 99 effective today.”
The announcement came in the wake of Wenger pocketing $5012 after winning this past weekend’s FALS Cup in family-owned No. 42 car and him posting a NWO (new Wenger Order) logo to Facebook. That new family-owned car was recently purchased from last year’s Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series O’Reilly Auto Parts Rookie of the Year Drake Troutman.
Wenger previously won in his family-owned car at Fairbury on July 5th and indicated he would stay on with Curless, “I have to thank Drake—he’s been a big help. We had a pretty good hot rod. We’re just going to race this car when time allows, and our Curless car will be ready for the MARS races and other specials. It took a bit for my tires to get going. Once they did, it was pretty good.”
Wenger had joined the No. 99 Rhyne Racing Engine Super Late Model, which is owned by Amanda and Doug Curless back in 2024. He told SpeedSport of the partnership at the time, “We started talking about 2024, and I spoke with Doug about the possible opportunity to race for him. It’s something I’ve worked for these past 19 years with my family-owned team, and he agreed combining our efforts seemed like a natural fit. He’s now giving me a great opportunity and a great team to work with.” Wenger competed in 43 events last year. He made 35 features and had 11 wins, 22 Top 5s, and 28 Top 10s.
He is currently fifth in the MARS Late Model Championship this year, 115 points behind current leader Ryan Unzicker.
