Mike Marlar was not happy with how Eldora Speedway did its inverts for the Dirt Late Model Dream this past weekend.
On Facebook, Marlar wrote, “Eldora Speedway, why bother working to get what you earn?? Had to start 4th in a heat race I should have been on the pole of. Now we’re fixing a wreck. There is plenty of good competition to see a good show WITHOUT INVERTS!!! No need to penalize guys who work hard.” He then added the hashtags #dobetter and #invertsgottago.
For context, Marlar qualified second in Qualifying Group B with a lap of 15.509. Only Garrett Alberson beat him with a 15.296. Nevertheless, he was forced to start in fourth in Heat 4 and ended up finishing in fifth, claiming the last and final transfer spot. However, during that heat race he banged off of Mark Whitener during a restart with 8 laps to go while racing for third.
Marlar would start 11th for the preliminary feature and eventually finished in 22nd. He finished preliminary competition in 35th based on Eldora’s “Every Lap Matters” points system.
Marlar would not be the only one to comment on Eldora’s inversion system. Eventual race winner Jonathan Davenport provided some commentary after his preliminary win when he spun the Wheel of Misfortune. Davenport stated, “Oh man, they took off the 1 and 2. What the heck?”
Bobby Pierce, who finished second in The Dream, also shared his thoughts on X, “I was surprised to see there wasn’t a 1 or 2.”
Marlar eventually failed to qualify for Saturday’s main event. He started and finished sixth in Heat 5. After starting 7th in B-Main 2, he finished 13th. Davenport finished 3rd in his Heat 1 after starting fourth while Pierce finished 2nd after starting fourth in Heat 3.
As noted above, Davenport went on to win the race and Pierce finished second.
What do you make of Marlar’s comments?
