NASCAR announced it fined Carson $50,000 for a behavioral penalty during the Cup series race at Kansas Speedway on Sunday.
According to NASCAR.com, Hocevar was issued the fine after he spun on the backstretch with just 13 laps left in the race. After safety personnel arrived on the scene, Hocevar “revved and spun his tires in an attempt to rejoin the field while those safety workers attended his car.”
This was found to be in violation of Sections 4.4.B&D: NASCAR Member Conduct in the NASCAR Rule Book.
Footage from USA’s broadcast of the race did show Hocevar spinning the rear tires following the spin, but was unable to get the car to move. However, the safety workers were not attending his car at the time of the footage. When the broadcast did show footage of the safety workers on the scene, Hocevar’s car was still stationary, and his tires were not being spun. However, it did appear that safety workers were being instructed to move away from the car.
Hocevar was running in 13th at the time of the spin. He eventually finished the race race in 29th, four laps down.
