NASCAR Cup Series Managing Director Brad Moran shared that he and his team will take a look at Austin Cindric’s retaliation against Ty Dillon during the beginning of the race at the Circuit of the Americas.
On Lap 3 of the race, Ty Dillon ran Cindric to the outside and even off the track. After Cindric returned to the racing surface from the grass he clipped Dillon in the right rear and spun him around.

Dillon reacted to Cindric’s move immediately following it saying, “I’m not gonna say anything but you know what I’m thinking. That was some absolute bulls**t.

During an appearance on SiriusXM NASCAR Radio, Moran was asked about the incident, “We had an incident with Austin Cindric making contact with Ty Dillon and getting into the side of him. Is that something that the sanctioning body is going to look a little deeper into, Brad?”
Moran responded, “Yeah, unfortunately. That happened early on in the race. There was not a caution at that point for it and we are going to go back. That’s on our list today. So we’ll have a look at that and we’ll just see if there’s something there that we really do not like and if there is we’ll have to deal with it.”
Denny Hamlin believes NASCAR should penalize Cindric if the data shows him turning left into Dillon. He said during his most recent episode of Actions Detrimental, “I don’t have the data to sit here and say, ‘Did he or did he not turn hard left?’ If the data shows it, it’s going to be a hard one to avoid a penalty.”
When asked if speed matters, Hamlin indicated it does not, “Right hook’s a right hook.” He elaborated, “It shouldn’t be the severity of the outcome that decides whether it’s a penalty or not. I feel like a lot of the time that’s the case. In the subconscious mind I think that it plays a role in whether NASCAR chooses to penalize or not which I don’t think should be.”
