Nick Hoffman broke down his herculean second place run after he struggled in qualifying and even regretted not giving Mike Harrison some payback in order to win the race.
In Qualifying Group A, Hoffman caught the turn four wall and did significant damage to his quarter panel and he ended up qualifying 28th out of 31 cars and Seth Daniels did not even take to the track.
That put him in a 10th place starting position out of 11 cars in Heat 1 and he was able to avoid Benji Hicks about halfway through the race and then avoided a spinning Michael Leach on the restart. With 5 to go Hoffman was up to third. Two laps later and he was in second place and then he began hounding Mike Harrison, but never completed the pass despite trying to get around him a couple times up top. Harrison ended up winning the race with Hoffman finishing second and advancing to the feature.

Speaking to FloRacing after the race, Hoffman broke down his finish, “Who says you can’t pass inside the Dome? Our race car was really good. I felt like I could kind of go anywhere. I just rolled out there and noticed there was nothing left of that top so those guys were trying to slide up to it like they were in qualifying. Kind of bit them a couple times.”
“I wasn’t out there to make friends. So I had to get pretty aggressive,” Hoffman continued. “Mike [Harrison] turned me around a couple years ago in a modified here and I probably should have paid that one back right there to win that heat race, but all in all when you get to second at that point you’re pretty happy. So got to the outside of him coming to the white, but wasn’t able to do nothing going to the checker.”
On X, Hoffman added, “How about that [expletive]. Blew the entire deck out in qual. Qualified almost last. Went 10th to 2nd in my heat. Caught a couple breaks, and weaved my way through there. We will roll from 7th in the feature!”
