It’s being reported that Tyler Carpenter will not be competing for a spot in The Dream during tonight’s heat races because he gave his father, Freddie Carpenter, the chance to keep his hopes alive by letting him race his car last night.
During last night’s first heat race Freddie Carpenter like a number of other competitors suffered significant damage from Eldora’s turn 1 cushion and pulled into the pits after Ashton Winger broke a J-bar and drew a caution. Carpenter told DirtonDirt.com, “I got over the cushion [in turn one] and I think it knocked the driveshaft out of it. Then everything else broke — the tranny, the oil pump, the fuel pump. I looked at it and said, ‘No way we’re fixing that.'”
However, his son had other ideas and quickly went to get his car and taped Feddie’s C4 number over his 28. Yet, Eldora officials informed Carpenter that Tyler would have to forfeit his chances to compete in The Dream if Freddie drove his car. Tyler had no qualms with making that decision saying, “I know how much this place mean to him. So he can run it.”
Freddie added, “I feel bad that he can’t race tomorrow, but I gotta thank him for letting me run his car.”
While Tyler allowed his father to race his car, the team and family still had repair work to do given the damage Tyler suffered in preliminary competition on Thursday night. Nevertheless, the team got the car to the track in time for the B-Main where he was the ninth of nine cars to compete. 13 cars were scheduled to take the start.

Freddie made his way as high as 6th in the B-Main, but eventually finished in 7th. Only the top three moved on to the feature.
Freddie has his work cut out for him tonight. He starts 13th in Heat 4 and has some extraordinarily tough competition in his heat that includes Michael Leach, Kyle Bronson, Brandon Sheppard, Brandon Overton, Kale Green, Jason Feger, Ryan Gustin, Hudson O’Neal, Drake Troutman, Trent Ivey, Casey Noonan, Brandon Moore, and Ross Bailes.
Additionally, his son Tyler is also listed as part of Heat 4. So it’s unclear if Eldora officials changed their mines following Kovac’s report or something else occurred. Stock Car Report has reached out to both Eldora Speedway and Kovac for additional information.
